Medications to Treat PTSD 

Serotonin reuptake inhibitor or SSRI is one of the most popular medications used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder.  These include fluoxetine also known as Prozac, sertraline, called Zoloft and paroxetine  or Paxil.  They are used to treat panic, anxiety and depression.  Atypical antipsychotics can also be used to treat PTSD.  These include a risperidone called Risperdal,  Zyprexa, and Seroquel also known as quetiapine.  These work best for those you experience agitated behaviors like aggression, or paranoia.  Mood stabilizers that are also used include Lamictal a lamotrigine, Gabitril also known as tiagabine, and Depakote (divalproex sodium).  Clonidine or Catapres, Tenex and propranolol help to treat physical symptoms.
